I often find myself thinking of resilience. Happier people are more resilient! Building our resilience is a tried and tested method in positive psychology for improving our general well-being and happiness. Resilience might be defined as our ability to bounce back from life’s curve balls rather than sinking into overwhelm. Recent research shows that people who are more resilient report more life satisfaction.
10 Ways to Build Resilience
1. Make connections. Good relationships with close family members, friends, and activities that foster this are very important.
2. Avoid seeing crises as insurmountable problems. Focusing on how you interpret crises and traumatic events is important and
to know the interpretation can be altered. Noticing slight changes in this area of growth.
3. Accept that change is a part of living. Focus on what you can control and not what is past…
4. Move toward your goals. Make small accomplishments and work toward goals in realistic ways.
5. Take decisive actions. Do what you can and be careful during stressful events to take action where you can.
6. Look for opportunities for self – discovery. Many people report that they grow from stressful events so be watchful to see how
you might find that growth or change in yourself.
7. Nurture a positive view of yourself. Try to develop confidence in yourself and trust yourself and your instincts more often.
8. Keep things in perspective. Learning to stay rational and respond rather than react to stressful things.
9. Take care of yourself. Try doing regular activities that you enjoy and that relaxes you.
